So its still raining...

I know I am nearly alone in my indifference to the weather. Weather is something that seems to effect everyone to varying degrees, everyone except me! So I thought I'd share with you some of the reasons I'm OK with any weather in the hopes it'll help you keep smiling through the rain :)

  • When its raining I know its great for all the plants and the farmers.
  • We don't pay water rates atm but if there was any type of rain shortage I'm sure that'd be another bill to pay.
  • I have a lovely cosy and dry home to live in, hearing the stormy weather outside reminds me of how lucky I am.
  • Ireland is the most beautiful country in the world, if we had much more sun it'd change the colour of landscape completely.
  • I have lived all over the world but when it came to choosing somewhere to settle I realised weather came after, safety, ability to work, education options, accessible healthcare, welfare  (should I ever need it) and friendliness of the people.
  • When it's windy I think of all those wind turbines whizzing round creating free renewable energy.
  • And lastly anyone who is really really bothered about the weather should remind themselves that they are so fortunate that they don't have bigger issues clouding their thoughts like serious health problems or loosing a job that supports your family etc

There is so much you can control in life, why spend time worrying about the things you can't? I hope you have a lovely Easter weekend whatever the weather decides to do! I'll be crafting, baking and gardening, unless it rains ALL weekend lol :)

  3. I enjoyed your post. I speak a lot about the weather. I am not complaining as much as just commenting on it. This year the weather has been so different that it is almost puzzling. We live on the High Plains of NW Kansas, so the wind blows most of the time. In the past year we have had day after day of constant winds in the 30-60 MPH range. Some days were constant 60-80 MPH. It just hasn't been normal. I guess it bothers me some. I was born after the days of the Dust Bowl in the 1930's, but I have seen pics and heard my parents and grandparents talk of them. If we don't get moisture, I am afraid of the same thing happening. A lot of the conservation practices that were put in place after the Dust Bowl years, have gone by the wayside. Maybe not so much here, but in other areas that I have lived.
I wish I could see your Ireland. The pictures I have seen are always so beautiful. My Grandmothers family (Mom's side) came from Paisley, Scotland, and my Grandfather was born in Sweden. What a combo! My Dad's mother's maiden name was Ireland. My roots go to that part of the world.
Once again good post. I always enjoy reading your blog. You have a good way with words.

  4. I just googled NW Kansas, my goodness there is a lot of crop farming going on around you! Not many trees left, I'm guessing that doesn't help your water shortages. Its sad to hear the conservation practices have not been kept up, some people just don't seem to get it do they...

I always find it amazing how nearly everyone can find an irish family member somewhere in their family tree!

Thanks for the lovely comment, I'm glad you enjoy my posts :)

    1. Oh and I ment to ask do you have a wind turbine on your land? Sounds like it'd be a great investment!

  5. This area has never had many trees. There is actually more now than 100 years ago. It has always been grassland. The buffalo used to roam the prairies until they were almost killed off for the hides. A lot of the pasture lands are still the native buffalo grass. It needs very little moisture. We do not have a wind charger at the moment. Initial expense is the problem at the moment. There are a lot of the wind farms throughout the state.

    1. Oh right, interesting landscape, so different to what I'm now used too! We'd love to get a little turbine but they really are not affordable atm, I'm in the same boat there, maybe one day :)

    1. Oh yes that is lovely, when I was a child we lived in the caribbean for a while and we had tin roofs so when it rained it was so loud, i loved falling asleep to it though :) it has to be reeeeally stormy for us to hear it in our house now :(

  8. The garden has had a good water and the water butt is fuller too.

We pay for water via a metre so free water is great.

A hose pipe ban in my part of the UK puts it into perspective.

    We are all so lucky.

    Sft x

  9. We really are so lucky! Water is such a vital resource, you probably wouldnt need a ban if everyone had a water butt in their gardens and just did a bit to conserve - well done you for having one - at least your veg will be safe from thirst lol x
